Apsara Hoops

I began hoop-dancing back in 2008 when I still lived in Vancouver. I was addicted right away and found myself practicing at least an hour a day in my living room. Soon, I was making my own hula hoops and giving them away to family and friends. I now make professional grade practice and performance hoops for people of all ages; it's never too late to learn to hoop, it just takes patience and practice.

After a couple years of getting into my flow with the hula hoop, I began spinning poi and dancing with fire (hula hoops and poi). After finding my own kind in the area, I started the Castlegar based "Illuminadis" with some fire friends. Our fire troupe saw members come and go (mostly due to relocation for school or work), and is currently disbanded due to other commitments.

Currently, I am finishing up my Certification to become a HoopYogini™ Instructor, and should be finished in time for Spring 2017. This is a unique holistic practice that merges hatha yoga and hula hooping together. It focuses on strengthening the spine, the core, and is an incredible full body workout! There is a focus on mindfulness and breath, and reaching present-moment awareness. Finally, we learn how to bring the different HoopYogini™ postures into a graceful dance, or flowing meditation. Almost anyone can do HoopYogini™, as it is divided into different curriculums for different levels and abilities.

Apsara Hoops has given away hundreds of hula hoops locally and internationally in a quest to keep people moving and to bring joy to people that may not have the means to buy or make their own hula hoops.

You can check out some of the projects on my website and discover the power of movement arts to bring people together as well as create healthier, happier individuals. The hula hoop is a tool that can get you in shape, and help you meet a whole new circle of friends while you're at it. Get in the Circle, and have some fun!
