Selkirk Weavers & Spinners Guild
The Selkirk Weavers’ and Spinners’ Guild is a non-profit organization that has been active in the West Kootenays since 1972.
Objectives of the SWSG are:
- to foster the art and craft of weaving and spinning
- to mentor the skills and development of beginning weavers
- to encourage achievement of high standards in members’ work
- to collectliterature for the use of members
As a service to members, the Guild provides:
- an extensive, growing library
- rental equipment
- workshops and seminars
- annual sale and exhibit (November)
- wholesale yarn supply
Guild meetings are held on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from September to June, at 10 a.m. in the Weavers’ Room at the Doukhobor Discovery Centre in Castlegar. The Guild welcomes guests to these meetings.
During the summer, from June to mid September, the Guild operates a gift shop, full of handcrafted work. Visitors enjoy talking to the weavers as they demonstrate the traditional art of weaving and spinning.
