Castlegar Arts Council

Have you ever wondered what the Castlegar Arts Council is? Basically it’s a volunteer umbrella organization that has supported and nurtured arts and culture in Castlegar since 1974. It engages groups, individuals and organizations engaged in arts related activities. “Arts” means all the arts; visual, performing, literary, media, and also covers culture and heritage activities.

The Castlegar Arts Council works to enhance culture, arts and heritage in Castlegar. Art Walk, the Castlegar Embetsu Student Exchange and support for the Kootenay Festival are annual activities.

An on-going and very productive partnership with the City of Castlegar, the Castlegar & District Recreation Commission and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance ensure that in Castlegar, arts and culture receive a high profile in community planning.

The mission of the Castlegar Arts Council is to increase and broaden the opportunities for Castlegar and area citizens to enjoy and to participate in cultural activities and includes the following:

  • Co-ordinate work and programs of cultural groups in the area.
